Blacksburg opened their 2017 season with a home win with a 3-1 win versus Radford. After several missed opportunities Blacksburg scored their first goal of the season in the 19th minute with Blake Carroll serving a corner kick that was finished by Meghan Shelton. Just before the end of the first half, Radford’s Madison Page broke through the defense on a quick transition play. The shot went off the goal post and into the back of the Blacksburg GK for the non-traditional goal.
In the second half, Blacksburg stepped up the tempo and in the 62nd minute, Kyia Williams scored on a lose ball from outside the 18. The teams both had opportunities until the 78th minute when Meghan Shelton found Akaela Feng breaking through the back line and beating the Radford keeper for the 3rd and final goal of the evening.
