After an early season draw Blacksburg defeated Salem by a score of 2-1. Blacksburg jumped on the scoreboard early in the 12th minute when Ali Palmer lofted a ball to the far side of the goal where Catie Walters headed it home. Later in the 29th minute, Sophia Thompson found Ashlen Burch who drove home a long distance goal that would become the eventual game winner. Blacksburg maintained possession for most of the game, but in the 78th minute, Salem earned a PK that was finished by Skyler Hayes. For the evening, Chris Martin made 8 key saves and Salem’s Hannah Farrell recorded 2 saves. Blacksburg took 8 shots on goal and Salem had 12. Both teams earn 4 corner kicks.
