The Beginning of the Program
The history of the Girl’s Varsity soccer team began in the 1993-1994 season when Catherine Koebel and Katie Devens were on the JV boy’s soccer team coached by Julio Opazo. The need for a girl’s soccer program was sensed by parents and administrators; therefore, for the 1994-1995 season Blacksburg High School had its first girls soccer team with 26 players.

Riding a record setting 65 game unbeaten streak, the BHS Girls Soccer program successfully defended their top spot in the state earning a third straight championship.  In 2014, Jane Everett recorded the lone goal against Kettle Run to help earn Blacksburg their first state championship.  The following year in 2015, Blacksburg would once again win a VHSL State Championship with a Jane Everett goal over Region powerhouse Western Albemarle.  In 2016, Blacksburg exploded with 6 first half goals against Culpepper to win a third state championship.  All three state championship wins posted shutouts with excellent defensive performances.
