With little more than a few Bruin faithful making the trip to Woodgrove High School, the BHS Girls overcame the long trip and a strong #1 seed to earn the win in the VHSL 4A State Quarter Final.
A hard fought 80 minutes resulted in the Blacksburg Girls securing their first 4A state tournament win. Blake Carroll’s dangerous free kick into the Woodgrove box resulted in the games only goal when Sarah Linkenhoker created confusion in front of the opponents keeper long enough for the service to find the back of the net.
After taking the late game lead, Blacksburg denied a flury of last minute efforts from a hungry Woodgrove team seeking the opportunity to extend their season. A stout defense and the efforts of Kinsey Verbrugge denied Woodgrove’s efforts and preserved the shutout for the Bruins.
While little may be known about a game played 4 hours north of the New River Valley, the Bruin girls came together at the end of the game with a commitment to one another. Those that were in attendance that night could see what promise was made. For everyone else, join us Friday at 2pm to see how the Bruins seek to continue their quiet season of success as new comers to the 4A landscape.
